Domaine de Champarlan
The Champarlan Estate was founded in 2003 by David Girard, a winemaker in Humbligny, within the Menetou-Salon appellation. In 2011, his brother Luc joined him to manage the 47 hectares of vineyards. Together, they have modernized the vineyard: adopting sustainable viticulture practices, building a new winery for winemaking and aging, and creating a new tasting room for visitors.
60% of the vineyard is grassed to encourage competition among the vines, to fully express the terroir, and to prevent erosion on the slopes. With an approach that is as non-interventionist as possible, the Champarlan Estate wishes to preserve the full richness of its terroir. The terroir of the Champarlan Estate is situated on Kimmeridgian and Portlandian soil, composed of limestone sediments from the Upper Jurassic period. The grape varieties grown here are Sauvignon Blanc for white wines and Pinot Noir for red wines.
Following his marriage, David Girard took over the production of Sancerre wines at his in-laws’ estate, Domaine Régis Jouan.
