Pouilly-sur-Loire
The Pouilly-sur-Loire wine region is located in the Nièvre region, on the right bank of the Loire River, encompassing the municipalities of Garchy, Mesves-sur-Loire, Pouilly-sur-Loire, Saint-Andelain, Saint-Laurent, Saint-Martin-sur-Nohain, and Tracy-sur-Loire. Since a 1937 decree, it has been eligible for two appellations: Pouilly-Fumé and Pouilly-sur-Loire.

Located about 200 kilometers from Paris, in the southeastern part of the Paris Basin, the Pouilly-sur-Loire wine-growing region lies on the banks of the Loire River, which greatly influences the local climate. Within the vineyard area, four distinct soil types can be identified: Oxfordian Villers limestone (Caillottes), Kimmeridgian small-oyster marl (Terres blanches), Portlandian Barrois limestone (Caillottes), and Cretaceous flint clay (Silex). The vineyards of the Pouilly-sur-Loire appellation cover only 32 hectares and allow for a single grape variety: Chasselas. It is, in fact, primarily this grape variety that distinguishesPouilly-sur-Loire from its sister appellation, Pouilly-Fumé. Production is extremely limited, peaking at 1,500 hectoliters per year.Pouilly-sur-Loire wines are easy-drinking and fresh, pleasant and approachable. The wines offered by Domaine Michel Redde et Fils are nonetheless of high quality.
