Joseph de Maistre - Domaine de Reuilly - Les Fossiles blanc 2023
3*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
"Crystal-clear, vibrant, and mineral-driven: a top-tier biodynamic Reuilly!"
“Skin maceration (in the press), low-temperature fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and understated aging in stainless steel tanks on the lees—the formula was a hit. The result is a Sauvignon Blanc of insolent indulgence, fully ripe, with an aroma infused with exotic fruits accented by sweet spices. The palate is equally impressive: very open, rich, with astonishing fullness of body, intensely aromatic, with a finish as long as one could wish for, and threaded with a subtle acidity that ensures balance. Sunshine, body, and aromas—the jury is on its feet. Lobster is the obvious choice.” (Le Guide Hachette 2026).

About the wine:
Skin maceration (in the press), low-temperature fermentation with native yeasts, and understated aging in stainless steel tanks on the lees—this formula has hit the mark. The result is a Sauvignon Blanc of insolent indulgence, fully ripe, with an aroma infused with exotic fruits accented by sweet spices. The palate is equally impressive: very open, rich, with astonishing fullness of body, intensely aromatic, with a wonderfully long finish, and a subtle acidity that ensures balance. Sunshine, body, and aromas—the jury is on its feet. Lobster is a must.

A surprising wine for a 2023 vintage—you can sense the biodynamic influence, but there’s almost no acidity. It’s a round, rich wine with blackberry notes and lovely aromas of exotic fruits, especially mango. Is this a transitional phase? Tasted in December 2025.

I was disappointed by this tasting. It's a pleasant wine, but nothing more. I find the Hachette guide's rating of 3 stars to be very exaggerated... I'll taste a second bottle in 2026 to see if this opinion holds up.
