Wines of Lorraine

Wines of Lorraine
The Lorraine vineyard was authorized by Emperor Probus in 283. Supported by the church and the dukes, its wines were exported and gained recognition as they made their way to England and the Netherlands. After phylloxera and two world wars, the vineyards declined and nearly disappeared, but were preserved by a few tenacious winegrowers. Since then, Lorraine has had two AOCs (Côte-de-Toul since 1998 and Moselle since 2010) and two IGPs (Côtes-de-Meuse and Lorraine).
