Kumeu River's 2018 Sauvignon Blanc comes from a vineyard in Hawke's Bay that was originally developed as part of a partnership between Trinity Hill and the Jolivet family from the Loire Valley. It is made from grapes that are harvested by hand and fermented with indigenous yeasts, before being aged (briefly) in stainless steel. The nose is marked by notes of nectarine and pink grapefruit, while the medium-bodied palate has a silky texture and a lively, tangy finish with notes of lime and fresh herbs." (Wine Advocate 2019). Unfortunate... a price that is worlds apart from the poor quality of this bottle. Night and day compared to the fabulous DOG POINT.

Compared to the 2019 Greywacke Sauvignon, this wine has a more pronounced acidity that may seem excessive to some palates, but is very pleasant for those who enjoy New Zealand whites.

Expressive nose, floral aromas. Fresh, tangy palate (residual CO2), but rather short for this price range. Finish with a hint of bitterness. Disappointing given the ratings, I must admit.

Nice acidity but with fairly pronounced bitterness. Needs to be left to age a little.

New Zealand and Australian wines are among the best white wines available (especially Sauvignons). This little gem is a delicious example. A little pricey perhaps, but when you love something...
