Saint Clair Family Estate

Neal and Judy Ibbotson founded Saint Clair Estate in 1978, starting out by growing grapes to sell to local wineries. Drawing on their combined experience, they decided together to produce their first vintage in 1994, and their first wine was born. 

Its name has been retained and comes from a family that colonized the vineyard: the Sinclairs, a prominent family that contributed to the development of the town of Blenheim at one time. 

Saint Clair Family Estate is , as its name suggests, a property that today promotes family values: the son is responsible for all label design through his own company, and the daughters are in charge of sales and marketing for the estate. 

Blessed with a combination of soils and climates unique to the Malborough appellation, the Saint Clair team puts the spotlight on careful viticulture and is committed to respecting this exceptional environment. To this end, they work every year to reduce their carbon footprint, support the environment, and use as few chemicals and non-recyclable packaging as possible in their operations. 

Saint Clair reuses fermented grape skins as mulch in the vineyards of the Marlborough region.

They achieve 30% water savings through the use of underground irrigation throughout Saint Clair's vineyards, as opposed to above-ground technology.

Fifty percent of Saint Clair's forklift fleet is powered by electricity. 

Saint Clair wines are produced in 100% SWNZ (Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, an industry-wide certification program led by New Zealand winegrowers) certified wineries, and their labels are all made from recycled paper and eco-friendly ink.
