Seresin - Malborough Chardonnay 2022

The 2022 Chardonnay is round, creamy, and succulent. Cultivated using biodynamic methods, hand-harvested, and pressed as whole clusters, it exudes a sense of purity and ease. It fills the mouth with concentrated fruit and leaves behind a finely grained texture that coats the cheeks. Fermented with wild yeast and aged in French oak barrels for six months, the oak’s influence is subtle, with pastry-like lees notes that complement the flavors of ripe fruit, such as apple. Smooth and pleasant, it is ready to drink upon release. 2023–2028

A lovely bouquet of peaches and vanilla cream, fresh red apples, and soft woody notes. The palate is remarkably pure, with a coarse-silk texture, followed by flavors of orchard fruits and citrus zest, fine tannins, and moderate acidity. Fresh, ripe, and slightly creamy with a long finish. Quite satisfying and ready to drink from 2023 through 2026+.

This certified organic wine, which offers excellent value for the price, is designed to “emphasize mouthfeel over primary fruit notes.” It is a typically full-bodied and complex wine, offering a beautiful mouthfeel, notes of ripe fruit, subtly toasty oak, and fresh acidity. The 2022 vintage (4.5*) was aged at the Raupo Creek vineyard estate in the Omaka Valley. It was hand-harvested, then fermented and aged for six months in French oak barrels and casks. Lively, with slight citrus and green notes, this is an elegant, fresh, and full-bodied wine with slightly toasty peach flavors, revealing great complexity, lovely youthful vigor, nice acidity, and a long finish. Best enjoyed starting in mid-2024.
