Cloudy Bay - Malborough Sauvignon blanc 2025

The 2025 Sauvignon Blanc is full-bodied and intense, true to the Cloudy Bay style. Its structure and savory aromas set it apart. It features notes of cut grass and brine, green olive tapenade, passion fruit, and pineapple peel. Its acidity is briny, and all the elements come together in perfect harmony. I recall that, when tasted in context, this wine seemed a bit sweeter and fuller-bodied than some of its regional counterparts. Yet today, when tasted on its own, it reveals itself to be dense, textured, and well-balanced. It is truly excellent. Concentrated and fragrant, with notes of lemongrass, lemon verbena, and celery salt that enhance the aromas of pineapple, mango, and lemon cream, all underpinned by a hint of orange sorbet. It gains intensity on a long, expressive finish. Enjoy now. 

Aromas of bell pepper, green peas, and citrus, with a floral note—the elderflower is clearly discernible, as the producer suggests in the technical sheet. The palate is taut and tart. Intense and beautifully textured, almost velvety. Intense, long, and enticing. It remains a benchmark, even if it is no longer the sole flagship of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The price seems to have remained reasonable given the reputation of the name—or perhaps the prices of other wines have caught up. 2025–2030
