Dog Point - Malborough Pinot Noir 2021

The 2021 Pinot Noir is spicy and warm, with notes of nutmeg and star anise, pomegranate molasses and cherry, poached strawberry, and forest floor. On the palate, the wine is light and delicate, yet persistent on the finish, with a creamy quality imparted by the oak. These wines age extremely well, so their current lightness is not an indication of a short drinking window, but rather something to embrace and celebrate as they evolve over time. 13.5% alcohol, sealed with a screw cap. 2024–2036

A juicy nose of red currant and raspberry, with a hint of herbaceous notes. Moderately tannic on the palate, with a slightly light body—which is no sin for a Pinot. A very smooth wine. 2024–2031

Dog Point’s 2021 Pinot Noir is well-balanced, with savory and herbaceous notes. There’s no denying that Marlborough’s natural, sweet red fruit is abundant, but cool nights and an increasingly delicate winemaking process result in a deep, complex flavor. The wild, herbaceous, and woody notes—particularly fennel—along with a vibrant freshness, stem from fermentation using one-third whole clusters, yet this imparts neither harshness nor tannic dryness. Over the years, a gradual reduction in oak influence (lighter toasting) has also brought greater harmony and cohesion. 2024–2031

Strawberries, cranberries, and lavender with notes of orange peel, sweet squash, and a hint of tomato leaf. Medium-bodied with refreshing acidity and velvety tannins.
