Açores

The Azores GI can come from the various producing islands in the archipelago. The Azores' vineyards are protected from the wind and sea spray by small enclosures called "currais," made of lava stone.

The volcanic terroir of the Azores allows for good soil drainage and the accumulation of heat necessary for ripening.

The Arinto dos Açores grape variety (white) is endemic to these islands.
