Açores

Azores GI wines may come from any of the archipelago’s wine-producing islands. The vineyards of the Azores are protected from the wind and sea spray by small enclosures called “currais,” built from lava stone.

The volcanic terroir of the Azores ensures good soil drainage and the accumulation of heat necessary for ripening.

The Arinto dos Açores (white) grape variety is endemic to these islands.
