Château Barbanau

Château Barbanau is a family-owned estate now run by Sophie Cerciello and her husband Didier Simonini. It spans 20 hectares at the westernmost edge of the Côtes de Provence appellation, on a terroir where clay and limestone intermingle, on the slopes of a hill overlooking the sea.

The family’s winemaking history began in 1900, when Emile Bodin, the great-grandfather, decided to become a winemaker in Cassis. He then established the Clos Val Bruyère vineyard. Then, in 1989, the family acquired Château Barbanau, whose cellar had been abandoned and whose entire harvest had been sold to the cooperative since 1960. The entireChâteau Barbanau estatewas restored, and the first vintage was released that same year.

Clos Val Bruyère, meanwhile, is a 7.5-hectare plot bearing the mark of Emile Bodin, located in the heart of the Cassis vineyards. This exceptional terroir, nestled between sea, land, and sun, gives rise to the Clos Val Bruyère and Kalahari vintages. Since 2008, the entire Château Barbanauvineyard has been cultivated using certified organic farming methods, and has been certified biodynamic since the 2018 vintage.
