“Tradition has its merits at Alary, and after an already remarkable 2020, the 2021 vintage has earned the highest distinction. A gentle winemaking process—more focused on infusion than extraction—followed by 18 months of aging in tanks has produced this complex red wine with impeccable freshness and a refined bouquet of ripe black berries, aromatic herbs (sage), and flint. On the palate, it also stands out for its velvety texture, suppleness, and delicate smoothness, its finely chiseled tannins, and its very long finish, rich with morello cherry, garrigue, and spices. Irresistible today, it will remain so for years to come.” (Le Guide Hachette 2025)

About the estate:
The Alary family has been growing grapes in Cairanne since 1692—for eleven generations! Denis Alary, who took over in 1981, now manages 30 hectares that have been certified organic since 2012 and produces wines of consistently high quality. Drawing on his experience in Burgundy and New Zealand, his son Jean–Étienne is now in charge of winemaking.

Review and comment by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 11/30/2024
With a structure marked by pronounced acidity and a hint of sharpness, this medium-bodied Cairanne expresses highly concentrated flavors of red berries and fresh blackcurrant that blend with delicately spicy notes. On the palate, it is lively and opulent, supported by very pronounced, silky tannins that have been rounded out by a very long aging process, while a lingering menthol-like finish rounds out this pleasant tasting experience. So juicy that it’s perfect for pairing with a creamy risotto with chorizo and Parmesan. Rating = 3.8.
