Château La Nerthe - Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2011
2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
Hachette Wine Guide rating: 2** (Outstanding wine) + Favorite
"A 'royal, imperial, and pontifical' wine," as Frédéric Mistral described it. Grenache (47%) accompanied by Syrah (29%), Mourvèdre (22%) and a pinch of Cinsault make up this captivating wine with its complex and distinguished bouquet, with hints of ripe fruit and truffle chocolate. With restrained power, density, and velvety texture, the palate is supported by silky, elegant tannins that guarantee excellent aging potential (a decade or more)." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2014)

Rated estate (2016 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
This is one of the appellation's great historic estates. The 90 hectares of vineyards, which have been greatly expanded since their purchase by the Richard family, are located partly around the château, with a large plot (25 hectares) on the Crau plateau. The red and white wines have a truly "classic" personality linked to the central location of the terroir and the complementary role of the grape varieties. But you absolutely must choose the prestige cuvées, Les Cadettes for reds and Beauvenir for whites.

About wine:
The ever-excellent La Nerthe wine, as it was described at the court of Louis XVI, has long been renowned beyond our borders. As early as the 18th century, under the impetus of its first owners, the Tulle de Villefranche family, it was exported throughout Europe. Today, its horizons are global, with 70% of production sold outside France. There will still be a few bottles of this remarkable 2011 vintage left for French wine lovers to enjoy. A "royal, imperial and pontifical" wine, as Frédéric Mistral described it. Grenache (47%), accompanied by Syrah (29%), Mourvèdre (22%) and a pinch of Cinsault, make up this captivating wine with its complex and distinguished bouquet, with hints of ripe fruit and truffle chocolate. With its restrained power, density and velvety texture, the palate is supported by silky, elegant tannins that guarantee excellent aging potential (a decade or more).
About the estate:
A vast historic estate (90 hectares of organic land). Les Tulle de Villefranche, its first owners, were already bottling this "excellent wine from La Nerthe," as it was described at the court of Louis XVI, on the estate in 1784. Devastated by phylloxera, the estate was sold in 1870 to Joseph Ducos, who restored it to its former glory. Since 1985, the Richards have been at the helm and have entrusted the management to Alain Dugas. A pillar of the Châteauneuf AOC.
