About the estate:

Jean-Paul Autard cultivates 25 hectares of vineyards in the northeastern part of the appellation, all in Courthézon. The “Juline” cuvée (a combination of the names Jules and Pauline, Jean-Paul’s two children) typically consists of about half Syrah and is aged in barrels. The wines are well-structured, and the 2016 vintage of the prestigious “Côte-Ronde” cuvée is particularly successful.

About the estate:

A statue of the Virgin Mary at the entrance to the estate serves as a reminder that it was once a residence of the Diocese of Avignon. Beneath the pine-covered hill, the safre cellar houses the wine barrels for many months. Paul is the first name of the founder, and Jean-Paul is that of the current owner, who has been at the helm of the estate since he was seventeen. The vineyard covers 25 hectares, scattered north of Châteauneuf, near Courthézon.

About the wine:

Brighter and fresher than the 2015 vintage, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée la Côte Ronde spent 17 months in new oak barrels without dulling its concentrated notes of cherry and berries. There’s a hint of cocoa, but this full-bodied yet supple wine finishes with liveliness and length.
