“Aromas of raspberry and blackcurrant—good enough to eat!”

“Its deep purple color offers a magnificent bouquet of black raspberry, blackcurrant, graphite, and subtly spiced wood. This pure, medium- to full-bodied Châteauneuf—elegant and incredibly refined—features beautiful tannins, a structured and balanced palate, and an excellent finish.” (Jeb Dunnuck 2022).

Rated 3 stars (A high-quality product that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

The Château de Vaudieu, built in 1767 by Admiral Gérin, a lieutenant in the Marseille Admiralty, is one of three 18th-century châteaux in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The “Val de Dieu,” which gave rise to “Vaudieu,” now cultivates 70 hectares, restored under the leadership of Gabriel and Juliette Meffre, prominent wine merchants from Gigondas. In 1987, their daughter Sylvette Bréchet took over, joined in 1990 by her son Laurent, who undertook renovations of the winery to facilitate single-vineyard winemaking. The latest vintages have been highly successful, with a precise and powerful style in both white and red wines. Watch this space!

Rated wine (2023 guide) 93/100 (Excellent wine)

About the wine:

With a touch more concentration and complexity than the regular vintage, the 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Val de Dieu reveals aromas of sun-warmed stones, dried spices, pencil shavings, black olives, and black cherries. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, it is silky on the palate, with a taut, juicy acidity on the finish.

Wine rated 92/100 (Exceptional wine)

About the wine:

A lush, flattering style that opens with notes of black cherry paste and licorice, which quickly blend with firm tannins and toasted oak. Burnt thyme lingers in the background, with hints of black licorice and smoke. A structured, well-integrated finish.
