"A complex and elegant Châteauneuf"

The Châteauneuf Du Pape La Papesse 2016 is a brilliant wine, with a bouquet of red and blue fruits, lavender, Provençal herbs, and ground pepper bursting from the glass. A wine that almost screams "Provence" with its complex and satisfying aromas, it hits the palate with a rich body, a structured and incredibly elegant mouthfeel, fine-grained tannins, and a great finish. This is a complete and nuanced Châteauneuf du Pape that will continue to taste fabulous for the next 15-20 years. (Jeb Dunnuck 2022)

Manuals

Wine making

Strict sorting, juices distributed to be vinified in different containers (truncated cone vats, concrete vats, and stainless steel vats—approximately 1/3 of each). After malolactic fermentation in early November 2016, the wine is separated into various containers (amphorae, barrels, concrete vats, demi-muids, and stainless steel) for the aging phase.

Livestock farming

Part of the volume is aged in the same way as the Arcane Le Pape, using the Vinarium technique, whereby the wines are transferred to small 200-liter barrels which are themselves immersed in wine.

About wine:

The full-bodied and voluminous Châteauneuf du Pape Arcane La Papesse 2016 displays surprising elegance for such a powerful wine. Remarkably dark and youthful in appearance, it delivers notes of leather, cedar, and dried spices, all against a backdrop of black cherries and plums. The tannins are fine and silky on the mid-palate, fading gently into a lingering, slightly powdery finish. Impressive, with at least another decade of aging potential ahead.
