Domaine Barge - Côte-Rôtie Côte-Brune 2011
90-92/100
Robert Parker
"As usual, the 2011 Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune is the estate’s most serious wine. Aromas of charcoal, truffle, Asian plum sauce, blackberry, and smoke burst from the glass, creating a medium-bodied wine that is impressively rich, pure, and delicious. With silky tannins and low acidity, it can be enjoyed over the next decade.” (Wine Advocate 2012 - Robert Parker)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2015 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the estate:
For many years, Gilles Barge has led the Côte Rôtie appellation association with great dedication, and naturally puts his heart and soul into producing wines with a distinct character. The vineyards are located in the heart of La Blonde and La Brune, featuring in particular a spectacular vineyard on the Combard, accessible only by rail, much like in the German Moselle. His son, Julien, has joined him, and he will further refine the estate’s style, which is characterized by slightly harsh tannins when young.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
4-star estate (Very high-quality production)
About the estate:
Gilles Barge began working with his father Pierre in 1979, taking over management of the estates in 1994. His son Julien joined the reunited family business. The estate has expanded, either through the purchase of parcels or through leases. The Côte-Rôtie vintages, which contain 5% Viognier, are vinified from whole clusters and aged in barrels and demi-muids. The 2009 Combard, made from vines replanted since 2000 on a site with highly heterogeneous soils (volcanic...), which had not been cultivated since the 1914–18 war, is presented to us in its third vintage.
