15/20
Bettane & Desseauve
“Very spicy with a pronounced reduction on the nose, lovely texture, and good length. Its character makes it ideal for game. ” (The Bettane & Desseauve Guide to French Wines 2015). A vibrant red, marked by its terroir, with notes of fruit (black cherry, redcurrant), extremely aromatic, racy and seductive on the palate, with lovely length… Not to be missed!

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2015 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2015 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About wine:
Very spicy with a pronounced reduction on the nose, nice texture, and good length. Its character makes it ideal for game.
About the estate:
Gilles Barge has been managing the Côte Rôtie appellation syndicate with great dedication for many years, and naturally puts his heart and soul into producing very distinctive wines. The vineyards are located in the heart of La Blonde and La Brune, with a spectacular plantation on Le Combard, accessible only by rail, as in the German Moselle region. Julien, his son, has joined him and will further refine the estate's style, which is characterized by slightly harsh tannins in the primeurs.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
4-star rated estate (Very high quality production)
About the estate:
Gilles Barge worked with his father Pierre from 1979 onwards, taking over management of the estates in 1994. His son Julien joined the reunited family business. The estate expanded, either through the purchase of plots or through rentals. The Côte-Rôtie vintages, which include 5% Viognier, are vinified from whole harvests and aged in barrels and demi-muids. The Combard 2009, from vines replanted since 2000 on a site with very heterogeneous soils (volcanic, etc.), uncultivated since the 1914-18 war, is presented to us in its third vintage.

Cotes Rotie is already enjoyable. Well-balanced, though perhaps a bit short on the palate.
