"The cuvée that embodies all the greatness of the estate".
"The Côte Rôtie La Landonne 2021 will probably be the wine of the vintage, and it has more density, depth and length than any other wine. The classic La Landonne has smoky, meaty notes, as well as plenty of ripe black fruit, leather and violet. The palate is medium to full-bodied, remarkably pure, with ripe, polished tannins and a magnificent finish. This is a relatively approachable La Landonne that should reach its peak in 7-8 years and have an overall longevity of more than two decades." Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2023) 5*Stars (Exceptional producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)
About the domain :
Marcel and Philippe Guigal work together to run this fine family business, which since 2017 has expanded southwards into Châteauneuf-du-Pape (77 hectares owned), to be complemented in spring 2022 by the 100 hectares of Château d'Aquéria. And still the rich parcel of land in Côte Rotie, Condrieu, Saint Joseph and Hermitage. Enthusiasts can enjoy some of the valley's finest cuvées, not forgetting the brilliant Côtes-du-Rhône, in all three colors, and Tavel, Philippe's favorite cru.

About the wine:
The nose is very spicy, with hints of sparkling cinnamon and ashy, smoky notes emanating from the cluster. Medium-bodied for La Landonne, this wine seems unimposing, but is resolutely fresh. The tannins are quite dry at the moment, but very fine. It's not as long or concentrated as many recent vintages, but it will be a fresh, balanced and complex wine with time. This wine was vinified from 100% whole bunches. Sample tasted at the start of its long maturation in 100% new oak barrels.

About the domain :
In addition to its côte-rôtie, hermitage and condrieu "treasures", Maison Guigal owns two fine parcels of saint-joseph: the lieu-dit "Saint-Joseph", which gave its name to the appellation, and the Vignes de l'Hospice planted on a steep granite hillside, already spotted by the monks of the Hospice de Tournon and with a geological formation similar to the famous colline des Bessards in hermitage.

Estate rated 5*Stars (Outstanding production)
About the domain :
An emblematic figure of the Northern Rhône, Marcel Guigal is both a major wine merchant and a great owner. Under this second hat, he manages famous Côte Rôtie crus such as La Mouline, La Turque and La Landonne, not to mention La Doriane in Condrieu. A tireless worker with a tireless intellectual curiosity, he succeeded his father, Etienne. Philippe Guigal, oenologist and representative of the third generation, carries on the work in duo with his father, still based on this property-trading duality. Vinification of the northern appellations all takes place at Ampuis.

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
The most emblematic house in the northern Rhône Valley needs no introduction. Under this name, we bring together the cuvées from our own vineyards, which we separate from our trading activities. We thus find the famous Côte-Rôtie trio: La Mouline, La Turque and La Landonne; the first two are brands, the last a registered terroir. Added to these are the Château d'Ampuis cuvée and the Condrieu La Doriane. In addition to these star crus, there's the cuvée Vignes de l'Hospice, a Saint Joseph located on a magnificent terroir, as well as a few large plots in Hermitage from which the cuvée Ex-Voto is made. Marcel Guigal is ably supported by his son Philippe, who seems to be gently inflecting the style of the wines, with ageing that seems a little less dominant. Needless to say, all these wines are made for long ageing.

About the wine:
The nose is smoky, with notes of grilled meat, cloves, spices and smoke. The palate is grippy, with firm, robust, taut tannins. The palate is also smoky and fleshy. Graphite, damp earth and a very savory side. Good concentration, supported by the acidity characteristic of the vintage.

About the wine:
Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 2021 opens with pronounced aromas of black olive, pencil shavings, dried meat, raspberry and woody spices. Fragrant nuances of orange blossom and violets add a floral touch. Ripe, firm yet remarkably polished tannins provide solid structure. Showing more energy and ambition than La Mouline and La Turque, La Landonne 2021 is a medium-bodied Côte-Rôtie with scope and concentration.
