Guigal
Guigal, the undisputed leader in fine Rhône wines, was founded in Ampuis in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, who, early in his career, helped develop the Vidal-Fleury winery. His son, Marcel Guigal, joined him in 1961. His hard work and perseverance enabled the winery Guigal to acquire Vidal-Fleury in its entirety in 1984, although the company retained its own identity and commercial autonomy.
Philippe Guigal, a winemaker, is the third generation to carry on the family tradition of producing great Rhône wines. The Guigal family works together to develop this prestigious Rhône winery. From generation to generation, a rigorous selection process and excellence in winemaking have enabled the winery to Guigal wines to present, each year, true benchmarks from the prestigious appellations of the Rhône Valley: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Hermitage, Gigondas, Crozes-Hermitage, Tavel, Côtes-du-Rhône... The Guigal wines are a must-have for your ideal wine cellar!
Guigal, a leading winery in the Rhône Valley
In charge of several hectares of vineyards in prestigious appellations such as Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, or Saint Joseph, the Guigal winery has earned its reputation primarily through its famous wines from Côte-Rotie. Although the estate was founded by Marcel Guigal, it was when his son took over at the age of 17, following his father’s sudden death, that the estate truly flourished and has continued ever since to produce exceptional wines. The style of Guigal’s great wines is recognizable by a distinctive oaky flavor that defines its finest vintages. The Guigal estate is known for aging its wines for a relatively long period—up to two years. This aging process, first in barrels and then in large oak casks, results in velvety, well-rounded wines, though certain vintages may exhibit more or less pronounced oak notes.Great wines with character
The vineyards of the Côte Brune and the Côte Blonde, situated on steep slopes, are rich in schist and iron oxide. Combined with exceptional sunlight, these vineyards produce some of the Guigal Côte Rôtie wines such as “La Turque” or “La Mouline.” Made exclusively from Syrah or Viognier grapes, the wines from the Guigal vineyard are very dark and rich in tannins. The Ampuis Castle, the flagship wine of the Guigal estate, is produced from the historic vineyards. The estate is listed as a historic monument and is known for having hosted many kings and queens of France. Ampuis is the birthplace of Côte-Rôtie wines, and it is here that one finds exceptional vintages such as the Château d'Ampuis 2015 which truly epitomizes this trend among the vineyards to move away from aging in favor of terroir. It is a powerful, full-bodied wine of rare complexity that has earned the estate its reputation for the quality of its Côte-Rôtie wines. Château d’Ampuis offers several terroir-specific wines: Le Clos, La Garde, La Grande Plantée, La Pommière, Le Pavillon Rouge, Le Mouin, and La Viria—all wines of great finesse and exceptional purity.Wines for aging
Guigal Brune et Blonde 2016 Côte-Rôtie It offers a highly expressive nose with aromas of red and black fruits such as blackberry and raspberry, along with hints of sweet spices like vanilla. This is a delicate wine that simply needs to age quietly for several years to reveal its full potential. For more information, visit the website at Guigal
