Nose

Expressive, generous, and open. The syrupy concentration of fruit rivals the intensity of the floral, spicy, and roasted notes: fresh wood, mocha, Damask rose, smoked bacon, cherries in juice and plums in alcohol, vanilla, cocoa, and Sichuan pepper.

Palate

Opulent and energetic, it exudes a mature power that is enhanced by the warm, spicy richness of its aromas, the silky depth of its texture, and the refined firmness of its structure.

About the estate:

After studying in Beaune, followed by experience in the United States and the Bordeaux region at his wife’s estate (Ch. Filliol), Stéphane Pichat returned to his homeland to breathe new life into this historic estate, founded by his great-grandparents. Having settled here in 2000, he began bottling his own wines and, from 5 hectares in Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu, has been producing wines of consistently impeccable quality.

About the wine:

Notes of ripe black fruit, iron, truffle-infused earth, and peppery meat emerge from the 2022 Côte Rôtie Champon’s, a powerful, rich, and tannic wine that offers solid depth on the mid-palate, abundant tannins, and a good dose of acidity. This full-bodied, gamey, and powerful 2022 will need significant bottle aging before it is ready to drink, but it should be exceptional.
