Domaine de l'Inattendu - The Roche Family

Coming from a long line of winemakers, the Roche family has always been closely tied to viticulture. As members of the Pont-Saint-Esprit winery cooperative since its founding in 1929, the Roches have carried on this family tradition. Thierry, the father, worked there as a cellar master before taking over the family’s 25-hectare estate in 1996.

In 2021, his sons Mathieu and Quentin joined him in this venture. That same year, the dissolution of the cooperative marked a decisive turning point for the Roche family. Together, they expanded the estate by acquiring an additional 10 hectares, followed by another 10 hectares under lease.

True to their spirit of initiative, the three winemakers then made a bold choice: to buy the buildings of the former cooperative and set up their own winemaking facility there. This unexpected decision ushered in a new chapter in the family’s history and gave birth to Domaine de L’Inattendu.
