"Crozes-Hermitage haute couture!"

“Still at the top of its game, the estate shines once again with this splendid red, crafted from a sixty-year-old Syrah rooted in kaolinic sand. With a very intense color, it offers a refined nose that is still somewhat reserved, with aromas of wild berries and cardamom. Well-structured and enveloping, supported by meticulous aging and framed by beautiful, tight tannins, the palate irresistibly highlights the spices in a long finish that speaks volumes about its pedigree. Expert aging and excellent aging potential lie ahead.” (Le Guide Hachette 2026)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2021 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

Philippe Desmeure and his daughter Émilie have successfully expanded this family-owned estate to 30 hectares of vineyards. The winemaking and oak aging processes result in wines that are typically smooth on the palate. The estate consistently produces high-quality wines in both red and white, vintage after vintage. The 2017 vintage is particularly good.

About the estate:

Until 1973, Alphonse Desmeure brought his harvest to the cooperative. His son Philippe began developing the estate in 1977, shifted production to bottled wine, and expanded the vineyard, which now covers 36 hectares spread across several municipalities. His children, Émilie and Christophe, have joined the estate. A must-try producer, offering wines of rare consistency.

About the wine:

A juicy, concentrated, and well-crafted red wine, with aromas of black cherries, cocoa, and warm spices on the nose. Medium-bodied with creamy tannins. Ripe and dense, with plenty of berries, chocolate, and spices on the palate and a savory, peppery finish. Enjoy now or celller.

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended

About the wine:

The 2023 Crozes-Hermitage Cuvée Christophe is brilliant, with a pure, classic, and mineral-driven nose featuring aromas of black fruit, scorched earth, graphite, and glowing embers. Aged for 15 months in barrels (70% new), it is medium-bodied and concentrated, with ripe, polished tannins and a lovely finish. Although it is already very enjoyable to drink, it will age well for a good ten years.
