"Looking for a Saint-Joseph to add to your cellar? We've found just the Gem you need!"

"Well-balanced oak, with enough fresh, juicy black fruit underneath to counterbalance it, but give it time as the barrel aging is generous. Smooth, sweet, and luxurious, with fruits such as plum and blackberry, without excessive alcohol, just a feeling of richness. A successful wine in a woody style." (Decanter 2023)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Jérôme Coursodon is at the helm of one of Mauves' renowned estates. The Saint-Joseph wines from this part of the appellation (Mauves-Tournon) are different from those further north, around Sarras, even though they are all produced on granite soils. The estate's reds are often more accomplished than the whites.

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the estate:

Established for four generations in Mauves, the birthplace of the Saint-Joseph appellation, Pierre Coursodon, the father, and Jérôme, the son, who took over in 1999, are at the helm of 17 hectares of vineyards dedicated solely to Saint-Joseph, mainly red. The wines from this estate have long been included in the Guide's selections: with rare consistency, they are regular recipients of stars and Favorites.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

The Coursodon family has been producing wine since the late 19th century. The estate owns vineyards in the renowned areas of Mauves, Tournon, Saint-Jean-de-Muzol, and Glun. The white wines display a beautiful personality, without excessive oak. The red wine, L'Olivaie, comes from the heart of Sainte-Épine, in the village of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. However, we found the latest vintages to be very demonstrative, with very pronounced woodiness. The result is wines that are not always very easy to drink. We regretfully have to deduct one star from the estate.

About wine:

Aroma of grilled meat and cola. A powerful and dense mid-palate with spices, charcuterie, and a clear woodiness that is prominent at this stage. Plenty of fruit to absorb the oak over time and very well-balanced fine tannins. Structured and balanced, it should age very nicely.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 91-93/100

About wine:

The 2022 is very woody. This is not surprising, given that it has been aged in new 228-liter French oak barrels. Pronounced wood smoke and cedar mingle with licorice, fruitcake, black cherry compote, and blackberry. Looking for power and concentration? Look no further.

About wine:

The Saint Joseph La Sensonne 2022 is still a little more modern in style and has been aged in new barrels, but I never felt that it lost its classic character. It exudes aromas of blackcurrant and darker redcurrants, giving way to magnificent nuances of graphite, burnt earth, violet, and spicy wood. This beauty is medium-bodied to full-bodied, with a minerality typical of Saint-Joseph wines, fine but well-structured tannins, and a very nice finish. This is a wine worth discovering.
