Domaine Gardiés - La Torreta 2018

Domaine Gardiés - La Torreta 2018

powerful
terroir wine
gastronomy

La Torreta is a cuvée with Catalan accents. The blend of Malvoisie, a forgotten grape variety from the region, and Macabeu reveals a round, mineral wine with slightly candied notes and a hint of oxidation. A phenomenal cuvée!

3-star rating (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Jean Gardiès took over the family estate in 1990, focusing from the outset on red wines, which quickly became benchmarks for the region. Since then, he has consistently produced fine interpretations of his Vingrau terroir, cultivating 35 hectares of vineyards in highly fragmented plots, which is reflected in the philosophy behind his wines. For the past eight years, the emphasis has been on vinification that is as close as possible to the fruit, with less extraction and more subtlety. Whether you prefer dry wines or naturally sweet wines, you're sure to find something to your liking here, provided you're willing to loosen your purse strings a little.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

Jean Gardiés now works alongside his son Victor. A proponent of a classic style, unanimously respected by his peers, Jean took over the family estate in 1990. He focuses on producing red wines in the Côtes du Roussillon appellation, significantly reducing the production of sweet wines, which now account for only 4 hectares of the vineyard. Grown on different types of soil, the reds are among the best in the region, with good volume on the palate and very precise flavors. Noteworthy progress has been made with the whites, which are now aged in 600-liter demi-muids, preserving their mineral character. The exemplary consistency, constant care taken in both the vineyard and the cellar, and the finesse now evident in all the wines guarantee the estate a place of choice among the region's small elite.
