Galamus 2016 shows beautiful maturity with a nose of remarkable complexity, where the oak and fruit complement each other perfectly. On the palate, it reveals noble, powerful tannins that, combined with a lovely roundness, give the wine great depth. A wine with character!

About the estate:

The Grier family, owners of a vineyard in South Africa renowned for its sparkling wines, established this 25-hectare estate—comprising a single contiguous plot—in the Fenouillèdes region in 2006. They entrusted its management to Raphël Graugnard, who brings his extensive experience to crafting wines that embody the successful union of the Old and New Worlds.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 90–92/100 (2016 vintage) (A wonderful wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker—The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Not yet bottled, the 2016 Galamus is a blend of nearly equal parts Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan, aged in 30% new oak. Notes of toast, cedar, and vanilla dominate the nose, but there’s plenty of rich, velvety fruit to balance things out. It’s full-bodied and ripe, bordering on heat and excess, so drink it as soon as it’s released and over the next two years to enjoy its hedonistic qualities.
