“A wonderful invitation to discover native grape varieties”

“Equally refreshing, Autochtones is a blend of old grape varieties from the Southwest (Valdinguié, Jurançon Noir, Gibert, and Noual): a deliciously healthy treat with a bouquet of fresh fruit and redcurrants, and a lively, taut palate—Fabien Jouves’ signature style in this small vintage.” (Le Guide RVF 2023).

Wine rated (2023 guide) 91/100

Rated estate (2025 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

Equally refreshing, Autochtones is a blend of old grape varieties from the Southwest (Valdinguié, Jurançon Noir, Gibert, and Noual): a deliciously light wine with a bouquet of fresh fruit and redcurrants, and a lively, crisp palate—Fabien Jouves’ signature style in this small vintage. It’s perfect to open while we wait for 2020.

About the estate:

Operating as an organic vineyard on the hillsides of Trespoux, the highest part of the appellation, Fabien Jouves offers a range of refined wines that respect the identity of the terroirs to the point of highlighting their geological origin on the labels of his bottles. The wines boast the dual qualities of precision and freshness. The recently built gravity-fed winery is paired with a return to mixed farming, featuring the planting of truffle trees, lavender, beehives, and old orchards, as well as the free-range raising of black pigs under organic certification. With the planting of several plots of old “conservation” grape varieties: Cahours, Negral, Baral, Valdiguié Pissaïre, Magdeleine Noire, Mérille, Grand Noir de la Calmette, Gibert, Noual, Malpé, Jurançon... Fabien Jouves possesses the plant stock, winemaking equipment, and talent that place him among the great winemakers of the Southwest. His wines are expressive and innovative, and although sulfur-free, they are always precise and delightfully delicious.
