Clos Triguedina - Cahors 2018

Jean-Luc Baldès carries on the family legacy of this historic estate in Cahors. A large portion of the 65 hectares is located on the third terraces of Vire, along the banks of the Lot River. The remainder lies on the Causse plateau, with its whiter soils. While the thoughtful plot-by-plot selection reflects the estate’s heritage, the “Prince-Probus” blend offers an accurate glimpse of modern Cahors—vibrant and juicy. A must-visit destination.

A fine, concentrated Malbec—classic in style, with a delicate, powdery structure, racy contours, and tannins softened by the vintage.

Jean-Luc Baldès was a champion of Cahors Malbec, striving to bring out the full potential of his vineyard, located on the second, third, and fourth terraces of the Lot River. As the guardian of the vineyard’s history, the “black wine” and the Probus cuvée once brought fame to Cahors. Today, the estate is focusing on wine tourism and attempting to produce more modern wines, without really succeeding. We are therefore removing the star this year.

This estate wine displays a structure and richness that come from the Triguedina vineyard. The tannins are beautifully balanced by dark fruit, while licorice adds a hint of bitterness that will mellow over time. Best enjoyed starting in 2022.

Intense dark purple color. The nose is pure and youthful, with aromas of violet, blackberry, blackcurrant, and licorice, all underpinned by a hint of oak. The palate is dense and concentrated, still young but with well-polished tannins, subtle oak integration, and a lively freshness that balances the density; flavors of black berries, sweet spices, and licorice lead to a long and powerful finish.
