2*Coup de Coeur

Hachette

"Troisième Favorite Fabien Cardetti, who has firmly established himself asone of the appellation's rising stars. This cuvée, made from Négrette (60%), Syrah, and Cabernet Franc, joins its 2011 'big sister' on the list of top wines. A wine that aims for simple, immediate pleasure and fully achieves its goal: a lovely, very attractive garnet color; a lively, distinctive nose of black fruits, licorice, violet, and spices; a palate that is supple, smooth, and fresh all at once, aromatic and indulgent. What else?... ” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2017)

About the wine:

"Troisième Favorite Fabien Cardetti, who has firmly established himself as one of the appellation's rising stars. This blend of Négrette (60%), Syrah, and Cabernet Franc joins its 2011 "big sister" on the list of top wines. A wine designed for simple, immediate enjoyment that fully achieves its goal: a lovely, very attractive garnet color; an open, distinctive nose of black fruit, licorice, violet, and spices; a palate that is supple, smooth, and fresh all at once, aromatic and indulgent. What else?...

About the estate:

Acquired in 1923 by the Cardetti family, this estate began winegrowing in 1970 under Jean-Marie. Fabien Cardetti took over in 2008 and expanded the vineyard to 24 hectares; he also cultivates 15 hectares of grain and 8.5 hectares of hazelnut trees. This young winemaker has also enhanced the estate’s reputation with distinctive Fronton wines, which are frequently featured in these pages.

A nice wine, but the characteristic aromas of Négrette are not very pronounced

A good wine, not overly concentrated, very floral, but lacking that certain something to compete with the entry-level wines from the area’s top winemakers.

I tried it last week with roast beef. It’s a nice wine—light and fruity on the palate.

Too much emphasis on ripe fruit; lacks balance and freshness.
