Fronton

The Fronton appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) is a regional appellation located in the Haute-Garonne, Tarn, and Garonne departments, between Toulouse and Montauban. The Fronton vineyards cover an area of 2,400 hectares.

The Fronton wine vines grow on a variety of soils: boulbènes, which are alluvial deposits (pebbles, gravel, sand, and silt) from the Massif Central region, drained by the Tarn and its tributaries and characterized by a high silica content and the absence of limestone; rougets, clay-loam soils containing up to 30% clay, and graves consisting of numerous pebbles and gravel on the surface and clay deeper down.

Fronton wines are inimitable because they have the distinction of incorporating a main grape variety that is "unique in the world": Negrette, which is now only grown in the Fronton region. An elitist grape variety, Negrette produces an aromatic and structured Fronton wine, but has undoubtedly been abandoned elsewhere due to its particularly capricious nature. It took all the qualities of the terroir and all the stubbornness and determination of the Fronton winegrowers to preserve this tradition to the present day. Fronton wines are therefore exclusively red or rosé wines, of which Domaine Le Roc offers excellent examples.
