Domaine Horgelus - La Valse des Mansengs 2017
2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
“Winning the ‘Coup de Coeur’ award two years in a row is no small feat. Horgelus has achieved this with this Valse des Mansengs, which features a touch of Sauvignon Blanc to give its Gascon vines that extra bit of character that gives structure to great white wines. A luminous golden hue and an intense nose of citrus (pink grapefruit) and ripe fruit (apricot, pineapple, mango), subtly tinged with hints of boxwood, create a most inviting first impression. The palate displays impeccable balance, offering both vigor and elegance, smoothness and freshness. » (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2019) A cuvée synonymous with pleasure!

About the estate:
A certified oenologist, Yoann Le Menn took over the estate founded by his grandfather between Ténarèze and Bas-Armagnac in 2007, at the age of twenty-one; the estate now covers 90 hectares. He produces Armagnac, alongside wines designated as Côtes-de-Gascogne PGI. To preserve the berries’ aromatic freshness, he prefers to harvest at night.

A fresh, fruity wine that is very pleasant and well-balanced on the palate.

Very aromatic (on the palate), citrus, white fruit. Too much for me. I prefer drier, more mineral-driven wines.

Tasted in November 2019. A slight effervescence on the palate. A nose of white fruit with a hint of exotic fruit. A long, well-balanced palate with a touch of liveliness from the Sauvignon. A magnificent wine to enjoy now.

A bit rough around the edges. I think there are better options for the same price.

Not bad, but it needs to be opened at least an hour in advance to appreciate the subtle blend of grape varieties.
