Côtes du Tarn
The Côtes du Tarn IGP is a designation whose geographical area is located north of Toulouse, in the Southwest region. The IGP label replaced the former Vin de Pays des Côtes du Tarn designation in 2009. The Côtes du Tarn IGP may be followed by a more specific geographic indication: “Cunac” or “Cabanes.”
The terroir of the Côtes du Tarn IGP consists of stony and gravelly soils, with the vines growing on the hills of the Tarn. The climate of the Côtes du Tarn IGP is primarily oceanic in winter and spring, while it is influenced by the Mediterranean climate during the other seasons.
The grape varieties authorized for Côtes du Tarn rosé and red wines are relatively numerous, but Gamay is the primary variety used for the latter. The red wines of the Côtes du Tarn PGI are thus light and harmonious. The white wines of the PGI are dry and lively, primarily made from Sauvignon, Muscadelle, Mauzac, or Chardonnay grapes, although others are permitted. The qualities of the Côtes du Tarn PGI wines are well worth discovering, particularly at Domaine Plageoles.
