2*Coup de Coeur

Hachette

The color is dense and deep. It heralds the intensity of the bouquet, imbued with a noble woodiness inherited from twenty-four months in barrel, which blends with ripe fruit on aeration. The palate opens with smoothness and richness, before revealing plenty of chewiness and consistency, as well as a pleasant freshness. It is framed by solid tannins and controlled oak, which supports the structure without overwhelming the wine and adds extra complexity. In short, a perfectly balanced Madiran, to be left in the cellar for four or five years." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2015)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2014 guide) 16,5/20 (Reference wine)

About wine:

Powerful, with a woodiness that is not drying but still dominant, velvety and mellow with a unique texture, Tannat at its best.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2014) 2* Favorite (Remarkable wine)

About wine:

The years go by and remain much the same at the Brumont vineyards: stars, lots of them, and Favorites, very often. Honor the king of Tannat with this La Tyre cuvée, whose 2007 version has already been crowned. The color is dense and deep. It heralds the intensity of the bouquet, imbued with a noble woodiness inherited from twenty-four months in the barrel, which blends with ripe fruit when aerated. The palate opens with smoothness and richness, before revealing plenty of chewiness and consistency, as well as a pleasant freshness. It is framed by solid tannins and controlled oak, which supports the structure without overwhelming the wine and adds extra complexity. In short, a perfectly balanced Madiran, to be left in the cellar for four or five years.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated 16.5/20 (Very good)

About wine:

Aromas of incense, leather, and beef broth. The appellation's flagship cuvée, with a soft and sensual texture. Powerful yet round on the palate, with notes of pink peppercorns, it has undeniable aging potential once the oak has been absorbed. For now, serve with beef cheeks with pink peppercorns.

Wine rated (2014 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About wine:

The 2010 Tyre seems to have an extra touch of maturity. Its profile as a great, full-bodied wine asserts itself calmly: smoothness, then firmness, length, and freshness.

About the estate:

Alain Brumont develops his personality through a style that has made Madiran wines famous throughout the world under the Château Montus label, which he bought in 1980. Often bucking conventional wisdom, Brumont's vintages reflect his great freedom in interpreting terroirs with yellow and red clay subsoils, ranging from 20 to 40%. Tannat is featured in the château's three wines, Prestige, XL, Montus and La Tyre, and certainly delivers the most spectacular profile of this difficult-to-handle Pyrenean grape.
