Turkey is a region with a very long history of winemaking, and today it is the world’s fifth-largest grape producer, although only 5% of its grapes are used for winemaking.
Among the 1,500 local grape varieties, the main ones grown in Turkey are : Narince, Emir, Boğazkere, Öküzgözü, and Kalecik Karasi, which are similar to Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Tannat, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Excellent reds are found in the regions of Thrace and Anatolia, as well as whites with great potential.
