Albert Boxler - Alsace Pinot Gris Réserve 2022
91/100
Vinous
"A benchmark for Pinot Gris!
The first nose of this Pinot Gris Réserve reveals pretty notes of mandarin orange, pink grapefruit, mirabelle plum, apricot and white chocolate, followed by more herbaceous notes of mint and lime blossom, all in complexity and intensity. Madly energetic, the palate offers roundness and sensuality, beautiful tension and minerality, with spicy notes beautifully blended with citrus and smoky touches, for a gourmet, very long finish.

Bettane & Desseauve
5-star rated estates (Outstanding producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)
About the domain :
Since arriving at the family estate nearly 20 vintages ago, Jean Boxler has slowly fine-tuned the winemaking process, and today is on a par with Alsace's elite. The vines are splendidly situated, firstly on the Sommerberg, where Jean has a large parcel of land, and secondly on the Brand, two terroirs that shine for Riesling, the estate's main grape variety. The viticulture is demanding and meticulous, the ageing adapted to the wines and vintages, here no false note, whatever the grape variety, even the most modest sylvaner or pinot blanc (but the latter comes from the Brand). Superb success for the 2016s, with wines a little less dense than 2015 but which will age to perfection. 2017 saw the sylvaners, pinots blancs, muscats and, of course, rieslings stand out in the range. The choice is vast, even if few wines are available on the estate.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (guide 2023) 3*Stars (They represent the excellence of the French vineyard. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wines is always a magical experience)
About the domain :
Jean Boxler, perched on the heights of Niedermorschwihr, has confirmed his reputation as a highly demanding producer with recent vintages. He gives all his nobility to the Sommerberg grand cru, a granite cirque whose steep slope makes the work particularly difficult. The estate owns 4 hectares of this and 1.9 hectares of the Brand grand cru. Different cuvées from different parcels are offered, all of which have now reached an exceptional level, and exploring their nuances is a fascinating exercise!
