The Schlossberg Riesling is a Grand Cru wine from the Kaysersberg terroir, located on the Schlossberg Grand Cru site with its granite-rich soil. This terroir gives the wine a character marked by citrus, lemon, white flowers, and a delightful exotic touch. On the palate, it is dense, elegant, and taut, revealing a subtle mineral note. A superb wine for fine dining!

Wine rated 16/20 (2017 vintage) (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2024 guide) 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
Jacky Barthelmé puts it bluntly: “We’re very happy with 2021 because it was a winemaker’s vintage. Those who were out in the vineyards got the grapes. It didn’t happen on its own. ” And it’s clear that tasting the lineup proves him right: Pinot Noirs as successful as ever, Rieslings of great beauty, and even Pinot Gris wines that display a drier balance than in the past—which can only delight us.

Wine rated 18.5/20 (2017 vintage) (Premium wine)
Rated estate (2024 guide) 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)
About the estate:
The estate, born from the union of the Mann and Barthelmé families—two distinguished lines of winemakers dating back to the 17th century—produces wines of the very highest caliber, emblematic of the finest that Alsace has to offer. Maurice, an inspired biodynamic winemaker and occasional dowser, has brought purity to the wines through meticulous work in the vineyard. Jacky and his son Antoine possess a highly refined sense of winemaking for both whites and reds. The balance of the wines, their approachability, and their depth make them models for all wine lovers. Their four reds rank among the very best of Alsace and are among the finest in France. This success has now made them rare wines.

One of the best Rieslings I’ve ever tasted in terms of sheer quality (a perfect balance between aroma and minerality), but the price (45 euros a bottle) is still quite high. The website offers Loire whites for around 20 euros that provide just as much, if not more, immediate pleasure but with a different grape variety (Sauvignon or Chenin). Here, you’re paying for Albert Mann’s reputation. This was a test run (I bought just one bottle); I’m not sure I’ll order it again given the price.
