"The character and subtlety of Riesling come through beautifully."

"This giant with its granite minerality also has an incredible intensity of Amalfi lemon and lemon blossom aromas that envelop its mineral core. Very compact but graceful, the wet stone minerality develops and extends on the finish." (James Suckling 2024)

Rated estate (2024 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

Jacky Barthelmé sums it up bluntly: "We are very happy with 2021 because it was a winemaker's vintage. Those who were in the vineyards got grapes. It didn't happen by itself. " And it must be said that tasting the range proves him right: the Pinot Noirs are as successful as ever, the Rieslings are beautiful, and even the Pinot Gris wines are more dry than in the past, which can only delight us.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 96/100

Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)

About wine:

A model of balance, Schlossberg is firmer, taut, and crystalline, beautifully profiled and persistent.

About the estate:

The estate, born from the union of the Mann and Barthelmé families, two great winemaking dynasties since the 17th century, produces wines of the highest quality, emblematic of the very best that Alsace has to offer. Maurice, an inspired biodynamic farmer and part-time water diviner, has brought purity to the wines through meticulous work in the vineyard. Jacky and his son Antoine have a keen sense of winemaking for both whites and reds. The balance of the wines, their digestibility, and their depth make them models for all wine lovers. Their four reds are at the top of Alsatian production and among the finest in France. This success has made them rare wines.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 97/100

About wine:

The Riesling Schlossberg Grand Cru 2023 from this iconic granite terroir shines with its superbly fragrant aromas of mirabelle plum and lemon, the result of a yield of only 17 hl/ha. Malolactic fermentation was avoided in this wine fermented in stainless steel vats, which only reinforces its superb piercing linearity that so well reflects this hard granite. A touch of pepper enhances this beautiful aromatic liveliness, which only emphasizes its purity, precision, and balance. (Very dry)
