Domaine Borès - Alsace Pinot Gris SGN 2017 (50 cl)
3*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
This vintage confirms the strengths of Schieferberg, a high-altitude schist terroir, which earned the estate a "coup de coeur" last year for a sweet Riesling from the same vintage. This sweet wine makes an immediate impression: its intense coppery amber color hints at its concentration. Very open, the nose reveals a captivating range of complex aromas, including dried and candied fruits (apricot, quince, fig, date) enhanced by notes of coffee and pepper. These candied aromas linger on the palate, which is full-bodied and rich, with a rare density, tightened by an acidic edge that underscores its long finish. The very model of a meditation wine. (Residual sugar: 169 g/l.)" (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2021)

About the estate:
South of Barr, the village of Reichsfeld is located in the mountains, at the bottom of a steep-sided valley sheltered by the Ungersberg, the highest point in the Bas-Rhin region: this is where Marie-Claire and Pierre Borès have lived since 1988. The couple cultivates their 10 hectares of vines on the steep slopes of the Schieferberg, one of the few schist terroirs in Alsace.
