grand cru

The name of this grand cru from Beblenheim, "Éclat du soleil" (Sunshine), sums up its strengths: a sheltered vineyard, facing southeast, with very low rainfall. A dream terroir for Pinot Gris. However, 2021 was not particularly sunny at the beginning of the summer, but this did not prevent Frank Hartweg from producing two accomplished sweet wines from this grape variety. On this grand cru, he left his grapes to ripen until October 26. The wine is reminiscent of a late harvest: deep golden yellow color; intense nose of candied yellow fruit and honey, with a distinctive smoky and toasty character; complex, full-bodied, smooth and warm on the palate, enlivened by a lively finish. (Residual sugar: 45 g/l.)" (Le Guide Hachette 2024)
