grand cru

“The name of this grand cru from Beblenheim, ‘Éclat du soleil,’ sums up its strengths: a sheltered vineyard with a southeast exposure and very low rainfall. An ideal terroir for Pinot Gris. However, 2021 was hardly sunny at the start of summer, which did not prevent Frank Hartweg from producing two accomplished sweet wines from the variety. For this grand cru, he let his grapes ripen until October 26. The wine evokes a late harvest: deep golden-yellow color; intense nose of candied yellow fruit and honey, with a distinct smoky and toasted note; complex, full-bodied, smooth, and warm on the palate, invigorated by a lively finish. (Residual sugar: 45 g/l.)” (Le Guide Hachette 2024)
