Julien Schaal - Alsace Riesling Grès Grand Cru Muenchberg 2024
16,5+/20
Jancis Robinson
"What a bouquet!"
“An intense nose reminiscent of a floral Riesling that is more mature than a 2024. But the palate is by no means lacking in acidity—it is, in fact, very precisely sculpted and almost uncomfortably crisp. The wine is not yet ready, but should offer great pleasure with its lily aromas. Impressive length.” (Jancis Robinson 2025)

Food and Wine Pairings
It will be wonderful with a sea bass ceviche, "fines de claire" oysters, pikeperch fillet with beurre blanc sauce, and mildly spicy Asian cuisine (sesame-crusted tuna tataki)...

Rated 2*Stars (A solid, recommended wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Alongside a wine-trading venture in South Africa, Julien Schaal founded his Alsatian business in 2011—a highly original endeavor, as it is exclusively a wine-trading business based on the purchase of grapes from grand cru vineyards. Currently, nine grands crus are on the menu, representing just about every type of soil in the region, and the selection consists solely of Riesling—with the exception of a Gewürztraminer from the Osterberg and a blend from the Altenberg in Bergheim. In a blind tasting, his 2017 vintages blew us away. Hats off!
