" Gem e of the Year!"

Sophie crafted this Riesling with the intention of making it a “welcome” wine—and she certainly succeeded! With a concentrated nose of tropical fruit, fresh lime, and orange blossom, and a palate featuring notes of citrus, lemon curd, and crisp green apple, it offers a lovely, lingering finish full of pleasure, enhanced by refreshing acidity.

Rated 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Alongside a wine-trading venture in South Africa, Julien Schaal founded his Alsatian business in 2011—a highly original endeavor, as it is exclusively a wine-trading business based on the purchase of grapes from grand cru vineyards. Currently, nine grand cru wines are on the menu, representing just about every type of soil in the region, and the selection consists solely of Riesling—with the exception of a Gewürztraminer from the Osterberg and a blend from the Altenberg de Bergheim. In a blind tasting, his 2017 vintages blew us away. Hats off!

About the wine:

Its intense aroma suggests either a low yield or a hot, dry summer. It offers distinct notes of lime marmalade, with a very fruity and approachable palate. It’s not the most mineral Riesling out there, with acidity that isn’t particularly pronounced, but I understand why Sophie Schaal says she likes to serve it as an aperitif. It certainly whets the appetite. Jancis Robinson

About the wine:

This Riesling is a blend from granitic and limestone terroirs. It has a superb bouquet characterized by freshness, stone fruits, and floral notes. With a briny attack, the wine impresses not only with its finesse and slender character but also with its incisive structure, which creates a beautiful balance between ripeness and vibrancy.
