Louis Sipp - Riesling Kirchberg de Ribeauvillé Grand Cru Vendanges Tardives 2005
17/20
Bettane & Desseauve
This Riesling Grand Cru, also born in the heart of the Kirchberg Climat, is made from grapes partially affected by noble rot (botrytis) and raisined grapes. A great year that produces the typical aromas of botrytis (ripe fruit, candied fruit) but also the traditional expression of Kirchberg Rieslings, where citrus fruits are combined with spices and floral notes. A very fine bottle!

Eye
Beautiful yellow-green color with golden highlights
Nose
with typical botrytis aromas (ripe fruit, candied fruit) but also the traditional expression of Riesling Kirchberg, where citrus fruits are combined with spices and floral notes.
Mouth
Rich, full-bodied, and smooth. There is certainly sugar present, but without any cloying sweetness. The partially dried grapes bring a freshness and straightforwardness that prevent it from being heavy.

Food and wine pairings
This wine can be enjoyed on its own or with friends. It also pairs perfectly with exotic dishes that combine sweet and savory flavors. Well-aged goat cheeses go very well with this Riesling. To end the meal on a high note, it can also be enjoyed with dessert, accompanied by fruit salads combining citrus fruits with exotic fruits.
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 17/20 (Reference wine)
Rated estate (2020 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
Étienne Sipp manages this important 40-hectare estate located on the hillsides surrounding Ribeauvillé, including the Kirchberg and Osterberg grands crus. The great wines here are, of course, Rieslings, as the terroirs of Ribeauvillé are wonderfully suited to this grape variety, particularly in 2013, 2014 and 2017, wines that age perfectly over several decades, as the estate can demonstrate by opening old bottles from the 1970s, bearing in mind that at the time, viticulture was far from complying with current organic standards (the estate is now certified). At the entry level, the wines express well the saline character that the upcoming communal appellations will soon require.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Rated estate (2021 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)
About the estate:
Passionate about his terroirs, Étienne Sipp organically cultivates a vast vineyard, including two beautiful grands crus: Kirchberg de Ribeauvillé and Osterberg, vinified with aging in mind and always refined. The plot-by-plot work carried out over the last few years is very impressive. We have a preference for the estate's whites, where Riesling reigns supreme. The heritage of this vineyard could allow it to go even further, and some wines disappoint: regretfully, we are withdrawing the star this year.
