Wine rated 90/100 (2022 vintage)

Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more conventional and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

After returning to the family estate in 2017, Pierre Wach decided to rename it after himself, replacing the former name, Domaine des Marronniers. He converted the vineyards to organic farming and, most importantly, evolved the style of the wines. His father, Guy, had a preference for sweeter wines, which didn’t always win us over in the past. A change of era, a generational shift—this year’s tasting has won us over!

About the estate:

Settled in Andlau in 1976—a historic wine-growing village nestled in a narrow valley—Guy Wach is the heir to a lineage of coopers and later winemakers dating back to 1748. In 2017, he handed over the family estate (8 hectares) to his son Pierre; the estate includes plots in the village’s three grand cru vineyards, which are ideal for Riesling. The estate, which is already largely organic, is expected to begin the conversion process in the near future.

About the estate:

Pierre Wach has represented the new generation at the helm of the family estate since 2015. He first initiated changes in the vineyard, with Ecocert organic certification taking effect starting with the 2022 vintage, and then in the cellar, launching trials of sulfur-free and non-oxidative Pinot Noir. A new momentum has been created, but a few minor adjustments are needed in the cellar to preserve the full precision and freshness of the flavors.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Posted on 02/10/2026

A discovery: this Riesling, despite its youth, reveals a rich, tangy fruitiness in a full-bodied, well-structured palate, even defined by a remarkable crystalline acidity that extends the light, airy finish tinged with subtle bitterness. A successful pairing with Asian-style oven-baked chicken thighs (lime, honey, and ginger). Rating = 4.
