"An orange wine with wonderful energy!"

"A very complex nose of caramelized nuts with deep aromas of quince paste and dried apricot. The full-bodied palate strikes a balance between frank, moderately dry tannins and a dry richness. The finish offers a delicate note of potpourri. Give it a little time in the glass, as it really opens up beautifully. (James Suckling 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

5-star estate (Exceptional producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)

About the estate:

Cathy Faller works alongside her sons Eddy and Théo. The vast vineyard produces finely structured, fruity wines. The finest wines come from the surrounding hillsides: the Furstentum and Altenbourg grands crus and the Schlossberg, which shines in its crystalline interpretation of Riesling. The takeover of the Gérard Fuchs estate (in Sigolsheim) in 2019 enabled the estate to expand by six hectares, including two on the Furstentum grand cru. Ideal for meeting the unflagging global demand. An institution.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)

About the estate:

Le Clos des Capucins is one of those magical, elusive, timeless places. It is rare to find a place with so much energy and history, producing wines of such purity. Supported by her two sons, Eddy and Théo, Catherine Faller is at the helm of the estate, deploying rare energy to maintain the highest quality wines and keep the estate warm and welcoming. Her son Théo pays close attention to the vines, which have been cultivated biodynamically since 2005 across the entire estate, while Ghislain Berthiot, who has been with the estate for several years, is in charge of winemaking. Eddy supports his mother on the commercial side of the business. Here you can taste one of the finest expressions of the Schlossberg grand cru, at different levels of maturity. Its clarity and precision are impressive, often approaching perfection. Gewurztraminer finds its ideal terroir in the surrounding area. The estate has just purchased 6 hectares of vines, including 1 hectare in the Furstentum grand cru.
