"According to Robert Parker, it's one of the most impressive Veltliners of the vintage!"

“Bründlmayer’s 2018 Grüner Veltliner Ried Lamm 1ÖTW—iconic, radiant, and deep golden-yellow in color—reveals a deep, pure, fresh, and mineral—even slightly floral—while remaining concentrated, intense, and spicy, still wild and with dark undertones, evoking notes of crushed stone, yellow stone fruits, and herbs. Rich, round, and intense, yet pure and mineral on the palate, this full-bodied, tight-knit Lamm—highly concentrated and powerful—offers a lively citrus freshness that blends with phenolic and mineral notes. It is a sleeping giant that needs time, but it ranks among the most impressive Veltliners of the vintage. [...] 2023–2050” (Robert Parker 2020)

Rated Estate (2012 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the excellence of French wine production.)

About the estate:

Austria’s Finest Wines: As the owner of a 40-hectare vineyard, Willi Bründlmayer ranks among the region’s leading producers in terms of both scale and quality. A highly promising winemaker, he had to take over the family estate when his father fell ill. Here, a rich tradition meets a wine intellectual with an open mind toward innovation and practices that respect nature. Renowned worldwide for his great Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners, Bründlmayer also produces a fine Champagne-style wine (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay) and several red wines. The Käferberg Grüner Veltliner is always the most powerful and generous wine, while the Alte Reben (old vines) Grüner Veltliner offers greater depth and concentration. The Lamm Grüner Veltliner displays beautifully ripe fruit and a noble structure. The Heiligenstein Alte Reben Riesling, the Kamptal’s flagship wine, boasts wonderful concentration. Rounding out the lineup of Rieslings, the Heiligenstein Lyra displays a beautiful mineral density. Other notable wines include the lovely Chardonnay and the Vincent 2000 blend (Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zweigelt).

About the wine:

On the nose, smoky and nutty aromas are accompanied by a very subtle hint of reduction. On the palate, the wine opens with juicy notes of ripe fruit, particularly red-cheeked mirabelle plums, on a velvety texture to which the oak lends structure and body. It is a well-rounded wine in every respect, full-bodied, bold, and fruity yet structured, with sparkling hints of pepper. Best enjoyed through 2035.

About the wine:

It features impressive notes of flint and complex herbs, supported by a powerful fruity profile with green accents. On the palate, it offers a very refined, rich, and deeply concentrated texture, with a long, fresh, and majestic finish featuring toasty and bright notes. Enjoy now or celller.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 96/100

About the wine:

Bright, medium golden-yellow color with green highlights. Delicately herbaceous and flavorful on the nose, with notes of passion fruit, blood orange zest, a hint of apricot, and a subtle herbaceous note in the background. Complex, well-structured, and elegant on the palate, with refined fruitiness, balanced acidity, lovely fruity notes of apple and mango on the finish, and a mineral aftertaste. Good aging potential. An excellent Veltliner.
