Clos de la Roilette
Clos de la Roilette in Fleurie was named by its former owner in the 1900s, in memory of the finest horse he owned at a racing stable in Paris. Thus, the horse’s head emblem was adopted and features on the estate’s label. Although it appears never to have been surrounded by walls, Clos de la Roilette consists of a vast plot situated on a beautiful east-facing hillside in the Beaujolais region.
Today, the Coudert family runs Clos de la Roilette, a beautiful 14-hectare estate whose vines—averaging 40 years old—grow on sandy-clay soil over a granite subsoil rich in manganese. Of note is a new parcel acquired in Brouilly as well as in Champagne in recent years. The Clos de la Roilettevineyard is now managed using sustainable viticulture practices that respect both the soil and the vines. Clos de la Roilette produces refined and well-balanced red wines.
