"Late harvest, Gamay that deserves praise!"

This selection of old vines (over 60 years old) produces a high concentration and intensity of fruit that is reflected in the glass. Its ruby red color reveals a fine texture. The delicate nose reveals aromas of fruit, spices, and smoke. Its delicate attack and velvety texture evolve into a beautifully refined mouthfeel. A very beautiful intensity.

About the estate:

Alain Couderc's well-located estate, including seven hectares in the famous Roilette sector, where Fleurie overlooks the Moulin-à-Vent, was not spared by hail, as unfortunately was most of the appellation. The wines produced here are always very refined and velvety. Slow to open up and often austere, they set the tone on the palate with great elegance. The 2016 vintage confirms their lighter but very elegant style. Wine lovers take note: La Roilette wines are not about the nose, it's all about the palate and texture. Patience will be rewarded, as the delicacy of these wines wonderfully conceals their great aging potential. The rare but delicious 2017 vintage confirms this trend.

About the estate:

The estate takes its name from its former owner who, in the 1900s, wanted to pay tribute to his best horse, which was boarded at a Parisian racing stable. The 13 hectares of Gamay vines benefit from granite sandy soils, from which Alain Coudert produces several cuvées of Fleurie and Brouilly.

About the estate:

As I have already written, in 1967 the Coudert family acquired the famous Clos de la Roilette in Fleurie, neighboring Moulin-à-Vent, formerly marketed under that name, and Alain has been at the helm since 1991. The soils are rich in clay and manganese, which, combined with a classic approach to maceration, produces powerful, structured wines that age very well. Vinified largely with whole clusters and traditional submerged cap, these are typically deeply colored wines with lots of fruit and tannins. The 2019 vintage was particularly successful, and is the most openly floral vintage—in the sense that this appellation is identified with fragrance and finesse—that Coudert has produced in a decade.

About the estate:

Clos de la Roilette has been owned by the Coudert family since 1967, with Alain producing his first harvest in 1982. Covering 14 hectares, the estate expanded in 2005 with the acquisition of a plot of Brouilly in the village of Saint-Lager. In Fleurie, old vines surround the cellar. There are also 3 hectares in the Champagne sector, located southwest of the village. The style of the wines is unpretentious. The process involves classic vinification of whole grapes and aging in used oak casks. The Les Griffes du Marquis cuvée is aged for twelve months in barrels. These wines have good aging potential and are dense and full-bodied.
