"It offers everything you would expect from a Fleurie (Vinous)."

The nose opens with purple fruits and a hint of pastry, followed by a trail of graphite, forest floor, and dried cranberry. Dried red cherries follow hibiscus tea with tight tannins that assert themselves mid-palate and never let up. This Fleurie is still young, with stamina and cellaring potential." Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Gilles Gelin is part of a young generation of Beaujolais winemakers who produce a large volume of wines of impeccable quality. In the 2016 vintage, we noticed a shift in the style of the wines, which became more delicate, with a more refined aromatic precision. This style was confirmed in 2017. The wines are medium-bodied, with just the right balance. They are reliable and enjoyable. What more could you ask for?

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

3-star estate (very high-quality production)

About the estate:

The son and grandson of winegrowers, Gérard Gelin acquired Clos des Nugues in 1976, before joining forces with his son Gilles. Located in the north of Beaujolais, on the edge of the Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie, and Morgon appellations, the estate now covers almost 30 hectares. The average age of the vines is around 45 years, with some Gamay vines even over a century old.

Rated estate (2020 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

At the crossroads of wine regions, the Gelin family mainly produces Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages wines. A few plots in Morgon (1 hectare) and Fleurie (6 hectares) complete a range that extends from VDF to homemade crème de cassis. The wines resemble their creator, Gilles Gelin: rich in color with fruity tannins, they reveal themselves over time. His white wine is a metronomic Chardonnay in Beaujolais-Villages, which he continues to plant on suitable land. His Gamay version shows the excellence of the Lancié terroir when worked with adjusted yields.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 91/100

About wine:

The nose opens with purple fruits and a hint of pastry, followed by a trail of graphite, forest floor, and dried cranberry. Dried red cherries follow hibiscus tea with tight tannins that assert themselves in the mid-palate and never let up. This Fleurie is still young, with stamina and aging potential. Decant and drink now, or drink from 2026 onwards.

Vinous

Vinous

Wine rated (2024 guide) 90/100

About wine:

The Fleurie 2022 comes from three terroirs (Grille-Midi, Le Bon Cru, and Les Côtes) and was bottled last August. It has a well-defined bouquet, once again dominated by black fruits over red, with light scents of violet and a hint of vine tomato. The palate is medium-bodied, with a fresh and lively attack. It has good structure, pure fruit, and a certain elegance on the finish. It offers everything you would expect from a Fleurie.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2024 guide) 91/100

About wine:

A tight, fruity red with aromas of strawberries, raspberries, and orange slices. Medium-bodied, with tight, firm tannins that, combined with lively acidity, give it a solid structure. Best from 2025 onwards.
