About the estate:
COMMENTARY: The estate: 5 hectares in Morgon, on the finest vineyards—Corcelettes, Grand Cras, and Côte de Py! That was in 2013. Since settling in, through thick and thin, Mee Godard has been moving forward, improving, and building. An acre of Moulin-à-Vent here, a new building there, and wines that continue to refine themselves. The Godard style consists of very pure wines—never sterile, airy yet structured—that exude their terroir. Add to that a richness that was perhaps lacking in his early vintages and which happens to be the cornerstone of the superb 2017s. Everything is excellent at Godard; it’s a shame there’s so little of it!

About the estate:
Trained as an oenologist but with no prior experience in winemaking, Mee fulfilled her dream in February 2013 by taking over the vineyards of a retiring winemaker on her own. Her small estate consists of very old vines in Morgon’s finest terroirs (Corcelette, Grand Cras, Côte du Py). A Moulin-à-Vent cuvée was added to the lineup in 2016. With her free-spirited yet well-defined wines, Mee Godard is gaining momentum!

A truly excellent wine—one you absolutely must try. During the tasting, some expert tasters thought it was from the Languedoc, and I even think some thought it was from the Southwest (Malbec, Tannat...). I tasted my last bottle in October 2025. Magnificent—the perfect moment, 5/5.

A medium-deep to deep ruby color with a purple rim and plenty of purple still at the core. A radiant color! Something very interesting happens on the nose. At first, I smell a Bordeaux, Margaux-style. Primary terroir notes come through first, followed by fruit. Everything is still very compact and closed off. This might need a bit more aeration right now! …and it will definitely need a few years to develop. On the palate, an explosion of dark cassis and blackberry fruit, along with blueberries and red currants. Followed by dark, spicy, and earthy notes. Also some barn-like and rustic notes. Deliciously pure. Lots of body and plenty of tannins, giving it great grip and backbone. Enormous concentration, actually, with lovely freshness that lends the wine elegance. Beautiful balance. The wine has tremendous aging potential. Great to open a bottle of now in its youth, but will really come into its own after about 5 years of bottle aging. Peak 2025, drinkable until 2030. This has the potential to become truly great. Score: 17.5+/20
